Hello. My name is Tania, I am a teacher and I come from Ukraine. I decided to travel to Margate in south east England in order to undertake the 4-week Trinity Cert TESOL course. My plan was to improve my knowledge of pedagogy and gain an all-important qualification.
It was a great decision. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I was extremely fortunate to have accommodation with a wonderful family (in a house with WiFi), who lived close enough to the school for me to be able to walk each day to the centre, breathing in that wonderful sea air as I did so. The adult-only school produced a lovely atmosphere. I made many friends and the 6 hours of teaching practice were all carried out with highly motivated students whose average age was about 30.
Despite the intense nature of the course, I managed to participate in 2 excursions during my month, 1 to Oxford which I loved, the other to London. The school’s social club was also a brilliant place to meet and socialise with both students and trainees. Margate is small and personal, and very easy to get around. Like the school, it’s certainly a place I would recommend anyone to visit! Still dwelling on the thought? The course is worth doing. All doubts aside, try, challenge your knowledge, and enjoy!”
Although British, I have lived in Austria for many years now and have been working there as an English teacher before resolving to upgrade my knowledge and qualifications by taking the Trinity Cert TESOL course. I chose Margate because it ticked all the right boxes for me and I do not regret my decision.
The 4-week experience was one that I will not forget. My accommodation was ideal and convenient, being within easy reach of the school. The town, while small, has its advantages – it is very easy to find your way around. I certainly met and made many new friends while there, and hugely enjoyed the experience of working with adult students in what was a professional environment.
In terms of travel, I was able to use Kent’s Manston Airport – just a stone’s throw from Margate – which was hugely convenient for me. Manston is, in fact, reached by KLM from Amsterdam, making it easy to get to – basically reachable from anywhere in Europe. It was, in fact, one of my main reasons for choosing Margate. Overall, I can say that, for anyone from outside of Kent considering taking this course and staying in the area, Margate would be an excellent choice!
